The Master in Lied “Victoria de los Ángeles” is the only one of this specialty throughout Spain. It is also one of the few masters in Europe in which Lied is treated like a real chamber music duet of singer-pianist.
Regarding the students of the Master’s Degree in Lied, the ESMUC has agreements with the Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation, the Goethe Institute of Barcelona and the Franz Schubert Association of Barcelona.
As a prerequisite to access the Master in Lied, you need a higher degree diploma (240 ECTS) which may consist of:
It will be necessary for the student to have knowledge of the languages of their specialty. If this is not the case, it is advisable that during the master’s degree you study these languages.
To assess the suitability of the candidates, a test will take place in which a repertoire of between 15 and 20 minutes must be presented with works in different languages and in different styles within the Lied genre.
If the candidates come as a duo, they will take the test as such. If the candidates come individually, each pianist or singer will also have to appear for the rehearsal with their own accompaniment.
In the event of a justified impossibility of attending the aforementioned test, the candidate can send a link from Dropbox, Drive or YouTube channel, with the audiovisual recording of the repertoire. The recording, with a total duration of between 15 and 20 minutes, must be carried out with a fixed camera, clearly displaying the image of the performer, and stating the date of completion, which must be less than 6 months old.

Deepen the relationship between poetry and music and singer and pianist, as well as the relationship between one’s own body and the instrument, towards the technical and experiential specificities of the liederistic genre.
From deepening in all these relationships, invite to a reflection and possible revision on the own relation with music.
The master’s degree is aimed at singers and pianists who want to enter into the world of music that emerges from a written poem.
Both those who have a professional interest in the Liederist repertoire, as well as those who want to learn the nuances and richness that the text brings to music and the technical specificities required to face them, in order to enrich their performance as soloists or as chamber musicians.
The Master is also open to guitarists or other instrumentalists who, for some justified reasons, are interested in the subject.
