The Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya is governed by the following bodies:

Foundation

The owner of our school is the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya-ESMUC Foundation. The Foundation’s main purpose is the management of the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, as well as the promotion and support of initiatives and activities related to higher education and postgraduate musical studies and associated research.

The Foundation’s Board of Trustees is the highest management body of Esmuc and that which approves its main lines of work. Depending on the Board of Trustees, the Delegate Commission assumes the powers that it confers on it. It is a body of 7 people and, therefore, with more agility in their decision-making. The General Director of the Foundation attends the meetings and is responsible for executing all agreements reached upon.

General Scope Collegiate Bodies
College Council

The School Council is the collegiate body in which all levels of the ESMUC are represented on equal terms. It has the basic function of proposing lines of action and School operating mechanisms, considering the improvement of the existing ones, and evaluating the performance of the School in each and every one of its scopes of action, as well as debating and proposing solutions to exceptional situations that may arise. It is presided over and convened by the School management, with a minimum frequency of three times a year, and is governed by internal regulations drawn up by the members themselves.

Steering Committee


The Steering Committee is the ordinary governing body of the ESMUC in both the educational and organizational and operational fields. It is composed of the following bodies:

  • General Directorate, which presides over and convenes the committee

  • General sub-directors

  • Coordinations of the Instrumental departments and of the departments of musical creation and thought

  • Academic secretary

  • Head of Research, Quality and Innovation

The School’s Steering Committee is currently composed of:

Interdepartmental Council

The Interdepartmental Council is the collegiate governing body of the ESMUC in both the pedagogical and academic field. It includes the heads of each department.

Private Collegiate Bodies
Department Council

The Department Council is the highest governing body of each of the ESMUC departaments. All full-time dedication teachers are part of it, as well as a of 30% representation of those with a lower dedication.

The governing bodies, within the scope of their powers, must take into account:

  • The educational needs of the students, as well as the social, economic and cultural characteristics of the School.

  • The promotion of the participation of all members of the educational community, and guarantee of their rights and duties.

  • The impulse of the School’s continuous improvement.

  • The promotion of educational research and innovation, and the permanent training of staff.
