Access to the Library-CRAI
  • Who can access the Library-CRAI?

Access is free to anyone belonging to the ESMUC academic community and external visitors.

You can chek the current access contidions.

  • Can I eat/drink in the Library-CRAI consultation room?

You can only drink water if it comes in a closed container.

Opening hourse
  • What are the Library-CRAI opening hours?

During the academic year, service hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The schedule changes during the summer period.

  • Is the Library-CRAI open on weekends?

No, it is closed on weekends.

Wi-Fi network
  • What is the name of the Wi-Fi network?

The network’s name is Esmuc_Activitats. The password to access the Wi-Fi network is ESMUC2017. It also has a QR code to directly access the Wi-Fi network through mobile devices.

  • Can external users use it?

Yes, it is a network open to any user and visitor to the Library.

Library card
  • I lost my card, what can I do?

If you have lost your Library-CRAI card (either Alumni or external user), you will need to get a duplicate at the library counter by presenting your DNI, NIE or passport. The duplicate card has a cost of 2€ (payment by card).

  • My card is blocked, can I still borrow documents?

No, if your Library card is blocked, you cannot borrow documents on loan.

  • Can I use someone else’s card?

No, both the ESMUC and Library-CRAI cards are personal and non-transferable.

Information service
  • I need information about X and I don’t know how to find it / I don’t know how a library service works.

The library staff offers its users advice and assistance in searching for information both inside and outside the Library-CRAI, as well as in the use of the equipment available to them. This service can be requested in three ways:
 
Information Desk: You can go to the Library-CRAI information desk during our opening hours, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Telephone: You can also ask questions or make suggestions by calling 93.352.30.11 – Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Web form: without time or calendar limitations.

For simple and short questions, you can also use the Library-CRAI’s WhatsApp.

External users
  • If I am an external user, how can I access the Library-CRAI?

To access the ESMUC premises it is necessary to validate the ESMUC card at the School’s entrance. Since external users do not have this card, it is necessary for them to go to the reception desk to be accredited and have the doors opened for them. No prior appointment is necessary.

  • How can I be a user of the Library-CRAI?

It is not necessary to be a cardholder to consult the documents, but to borrow documents you will need to get a Library-CRAI card: ESMUC students, PAS and faculty, as well as Alumni and external individuals or institutions with a connection to the School or music, may apply for a card to use the loan service.

  • Is the card free?

The rates are established by the ESMUC Board of Trustees (5 €, except in specific cases).

  • How can I do it?

You must complete and seal the application for accesss to services.

  • What is the duration of the external user card?

Its duration is 4 years.

  • What if I lose it?

You will have to request a duplicate, which costs 2€.

  • What if I studied at ESMUC?

If you have completed your studies at ESMUC, you must complete the folowing document and deliver it, signed and stamped, to the Library-CRAI (cost 0€): application for access to services.

  • If I am a former ESMUC student, can I continue using the Library-CRAI services?

Yes, if you are an Alumni and have a Library-CRAI card.

  • Can I borrow documents on loan without being a Library-CRAI user?

No. You can consult them, but you will not be able to borrow them.

  • How many and what documents can I borrow?

You can borrow a maximum of 6 documents of any format, as long as they are available for loan (they do not have a red sticker on the spine).

The number of documents and loan days varies depending whether they are external users, or teachers and Administration and Service Staff (6 documents and 15 days for the first; 10 documents and 30 days for the latter).

Bibliographic catalogue
  • Where can I consult the Library-CRAI bibliographic collection?

The collection can be consulted through the bibliographic catalogue.

  • What information will I find in the catalogue?

The bibliographic catalogue holds all the documents (books, magazines, scores, sound and video recordings) that you can find in the ESMUC Library-CRAI.

  • How is a query made in the catalogue?

You can refer to the following link on how to find documents in the catalogue.

Reprography and printing
  • How does the copier work?

If you are a student, professor or Administration and Service Staff you can activate the copier with the ESMUC card.

If you are external ESMUC staff, you must go to the Library-CRAI loan desk in order to have a Reprography account created for you.

  • How can I top up the card?

The card’s balance is topped up online with a credit card. You will find all the information in Online Top up.

  • Where can I print?

The School has 6 high-capacity multifunctional copiers: 4 of them located in Library-CRAI (2nd floor), and in the corridors of the 2nd and 3rd floor. To be used by students, professors and Administration and Service Staff. 1 multifunctional copier located in the Academic Secretary’s Office (1st floor). For Administration and Service Staff use. 1 copier in the Reprography Service office (1st floor). For Administration and Service Staff use.

  • How to photocopy?

It is necessary to pass the ESMUC card through the machine’s card reader and select the option “Funciones del dispositivo.” If you are external staff and do not hold an ESMUC card, you can also do so with an account created by the Library-CRAI.

  • How to print?

Print jobs can be sent from ESMUC computers, via web or e-mail. You will find manuals with detailed instructions in Reprography.

  • Can I scan documents?

Yes, with some exceptions. ESMUC has a CEDRO license that allows scanning up to 10% of a book and an entire article, even if it exceeds 10% of a magazine or periodical publication. The license does not allow the scanning of musical scores.

  • Can I photocopy a book or an entire score?

No. ESMUC has a CEDRO license that allows you to photocopy 100% of musical scores, and up to 10% of a book and an entire article, even if it exceeds 10% of a magazine or periodical publication.

Materials and collections
  • How can I find a document in the library?

Through the topographic, which you can find by searching for the document in the catalogue.

  • How are the documents sorted?

Sorting by CDs, DVDs (according to types of recording content), musical scores (by type/instrument or training/composer) and books (subject and alphabetical sorting by author or title, if there is no author). You can look here for the Classification of the documents.

  • If I can’t find a document in ESMUC, can I request it to another library? Does it have any cost?

The interlibrary loan service aims to exchange and obtain documents between different libraries.

  • Where can I find more issues of X magazine?

The current year’s issues can be found in the space available under the magazine display in the Library-Crai. Previous issues are on deposit. You can ask for them at the information desk (we go there every Monday afternoon).

  • What if I return a document late?

1 penalty point for each document and delayed day. For external users and students, 18 blocking points means 15 days of loan restriction. For faculty and PAS, 30 penalty points mean 15 days of loan restriction.

  • How can I request that the library purchase a document?

By sending an email. The document must be music related.

  • Are there any documents that cannot be borrowed on loan?

There are documents excluded from borrowing (as indicated with a red sticker on the spine of the document).

  • Can I access electronic resources (databases, electronic magazines, etc.) from home?

All open access resources are accessible to everyone. In the case of those resources signed by the Library-CRAI, they are only accessible to users who are part of the ESMUC community. To sign in they must be authenticated with the ESMUC username and password.

External users will only be able to consult these resources at the ESMUC facilities, from the library-CRAI computers or from their own computer connected to the ESMUC Wi-Fi network.

  • I have taken a document to consult in the room, do I leave it again on the shelf?

All documents consulted must be deposited on the trolleys in the room.

Documents reservation
  • Can I reserve documents online?

No. You can make document reservations in person at the information desk, by phone or WhatsApp. You can reserve documents on loan, as well as available documents.

  • Can I reserve/request documents from the Library-CRAI repository?

Yes. Requests for documents located in the warehouse are uploaded every Monday. Thus, all requests made between Monday and Friday afternoon will be available in the room the following Monday.

  • I want a document but it is reserved, what can I do?

If it is on loan, you can make a reservation and when the document is returned, we will send you an email asking you to come and pick it up. If in addition to being on loan, it was already reserved, we could make another reservation and it would be in the reservation queue.

  • How many days does the reservation last?

The reservation expires after 5 days.

Document loan reservation
  • Can I renew online?

Yes, from My account.

Another option is to renew from the self-checkout machine located in the library. For the first and second renewal it is not necessary to bring the borrowed document; but for the third renewal it is.

It can also be renewed by writing an email to biblioteca@esmuc.cat, calling us at 93.352.30.11 or through the Library-CRAI Whatsapp: (+34) 677.26.00.73.

If the document is reserved by another user, the renewal will not be possible.

  • How many times can I renew documents?

Documents can be renewed twice. If you wish to renew a document a third time, or more, you must go to the information desk.

Self-chekout machine
  • Can I return a document to the self-checkout machine?

Yes, the self-checkout machine has document return option. There is a trolley next to the machine where you can leave your documents once you have passed them through the machine’s reader.

If the Library-CRAI is closed, in the return mailbox located next to the entrance door of the ESMUC.

  • Quins documents puc treure en préstec amb la màquina?

Qualsevol. A excepció dels documents exclosos del servei de préstec (diccionaris i enciclopèdies, i tots aquells documents marcats amb un gomet vermell al llom).

Donations
  • How is a donation made?

If it is a small donation (few documents), they can be taken to the information desk. However, if it is a large donation, we need a brief inventory with identifying data of said documents in order to value them and apply the donation acceptance protocol.

  • What documents can be donated?

We welcome CDs and DVDs recorded by the ESMUC community: students, alumni, faculty and PAS, provided there are no duplicates.

We also accept books and musical scores without duplicates and after the year 1980.

  • Who can donate a document?

Anyone who wants to collaborate in the growth of the Library-CRAI collection and has any musical-themed document.
