Catalan composer and professor at ESMUC since 2003, his music is characterised by its richness in colors and textures, combining Western traditional modalities with the search for spirituality based on a spectral harmonic inspiration.

Education

Bernat Vivancos's musical personality (Barcelona, 1973) is influenced by his years as a choirboy at the Montserrat Monastery. Coming from a deeply musical family, he completed his piano studies with Maria Canals, and composition studies with David Padrós in Barcelona. He then moved to Paris for five years to study composition at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse, with professors Guy Reibel, Frédéric Durieux, Marc-André Dalvabie, and Alain Louvier. In the year 2000, a pivotal moment in his career, he discovered the music of Norwegian composer Lasse Thoresen, leading him to Oslo to expand his studies, which shaped his musical directions and future work.

Concerts

Bernat Vivancos's works are currently performed worldwide, receiving commissions from important festivals and ensembles. His style incorporates elements that make his production unique: music with rich sonic and textural colors, where Western modal music converges with a search for spirituality based on harmonic inspiration from the spectral realm. These two fundamental aspects represent the strong influence of nature in Vivancos's work: nature as a root, as earth, a symbol of tradition, but also as a presence that invariably manifests in the physical properties of sound. During the 2014-2015 season, he was a resident composer at the Palau de la Música Catalana, and during the 2021-2022 season, he was a Guest Composer at the Auditori de Barcelona. His open and timeless music has attracted singers like Rosalía and Jennifer López, with whom he has collaborated on various projects.

Recordings

In 2011, a selection of his choral music was released on the double album "Blanc" (Neu Records), performed by the Latvian Radio Choir under the direction of Sigvards Klava. This recording received critical acclaim in Catalonia, winning the award for best album of 2011. In 2016, he released another double CD, "Requiem," with the same choir and label, praised unanimously by critics. Here, Vivancos's music, with its clear sonorities and ecstatic harmonies, ascending architectures, and bursts of Nordic luminosity, seeks to unite faith, sensuality, and beauty.
