He holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the Universitat de Barcelona (1982) and a Doctorate in Information and Communication Technologies from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (2018).
In the 1990s, he studied Computer Music with Xavier Serra and Gabriel Brncic, redirecting his professional career towards the field of sound and music technologies, immersed in radios and recording studios.
As a researcher in the Research Group on Musical Technology at UPF, he has been involved in projects related to the automatic analysis and description of sound and music, music recommendation and personalization, and musical perception and cognition. He has presented over 150 international papers and articles on this..
His most recent project, Banda Sonora Vital, was awarded the Red Cross Humanitarian Technology Award in 2020.
At ESMUC, he is (or has been) a professor of Fundamentals of Music Technology, Fundamentals of Acoustics, Psychoacoustics, Technologies for Music Research, and Critical Listening.
Between 2005 and 2011, he directed the Department of Sonology at ESMUC.
He is also a professor in the Master's in Sound and Music Computing (UPF-ESMUC), the Master's in Music as an Interdisciplinary Art (UB-ESMUC-URV-CSIC) and the Master’s Degree in Music Therapy (ESMUC).
