He studied Musicology, Romance Philology, and Iberian and Latin American History at the University of Cologne, where he obtained his doctorate with the thesis 'The guitar as a symbol: meaning and change within the Spanish cultural memory from the Middle Ages to the end of the Golden Century.'
He was an intern at the Instituto Camões, the UOC, and the DAAD (at the Milà i Fontanals Institution of the CSIC in Barcelona).
