Education

His main teachers have been Don Miguel Moreno Guna (Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid) and Mel Cultbertson (National Conservatories of Bordeaux and Perpignan).

He further perfects his skills by participating in various courses and masterclasses with Walter Hilgers, Heiko Treibener, Roger Bobo, Harvey Phillips, Keith Brown, Child Brothers, Dale Clevenger, Warren Deck, Miguel Navarro, and Guy Oudenaert.

Concerts

He has performed in tours across Japan, Germany, Austria, Romania, Puerto Rico, the USA, the UK, the Netherlands, Canada, China, and France; and collaborated in recordings for Radio Nacional de España, Catalunya Ràdio, Radio Televisión Española, Radio France, Televisió de Catalunya, and the BBC.

He has also participated in several recording projects with Pedro Guerra, Nina, Joan Manuel Serrat, and Michel Camilo.

In April 2001, he gave the world premiere of "Concert per a tuba i orquestra" by Pere Josep Puértolas during the 2000-2001 season of the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, under the baton of maestro Lawrence Foster.

Career

 







Pablo Fernández has been the Principal Tuba of the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya since 1994.

He is a founding member of the "Cuarteto de Trombones de Barcelona" (QTB), the "Barcelona Brass Ensemble," the brass quintet "Barcino," and the "Spanish Tuba Quartet" (STQ). Since 2002, he has formed a duo with pianist Rafael Salinas, with whom he develops the "Tuba Lírica" project, giving numerous recitals throughout the country.

He is also the president of the Asociación Española de Tubas y Bombardinos (AETYB).

He has collaborated with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, the Aarhus Symfoniorkester, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid, the Real Filharmonía de Galicia, the Orquestra de Cambra of Teatre Lliure, the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallés, the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias, the Aalborg Symfoniorkester, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Radio y Televisión Española, the Orquestra de Cadaqués, and the Symphonic Orchestra of Bordeaux, among others.


He has also collaborated with renowned conductors and soloists such as Martha Argerich, Daniel Barenboim, Hildegard Behrens, Joshua Bell, Montserrat Caballé, Michel Camilo, Sarah Chang, Jesús López Cobos, Hilary Hahn, Elihau Inbal, Dmitri Kitajenko, Yakov Kreizberg, Gidon Kremer, Emmanuel Krivine, Alicia de Larrocha, Ute Lemper, Radu Lupu, Misha Maisky, Marc Mink-kowski, Shlomo Mintz, Truls Mork, James Morrison, Viktoria Mullova, Emmanuel Pahud, Michel Plasson, Josep Pons, Eva Pwodles, Vadim Repin, Mstislav Rostropovich, Matti Salminen, Lalo Schifrin, Leonard Slatkin, Arcadi Volodos, Christian Zacharias, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Pinchas Zukerman, and many others.










Teaching

Since 2001, he has been a professor of tuba, euphonium, specific repertoire, and chamber music at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya.

In the academic year 2021-2022, he is a Tuba professor at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus (Denmark).

He frequently works as a guest teacher, giving masterclasses and recitals throughout Europe. He is actively involved in teaching and regularly collaborates with the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (JONDE), the Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya (JONC), and the Joven Orquesta de la Región de Murcia, among others.
