Luis Ignacio Gascon

Education

He graduated in Classical Saxophone with a Master's in Performance from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

Among his teachers, notable figures include Serge Bichon, Daniel Deffayet, Arno Borkamp, Nobuya Sugawa, James Rotter, Doug Masek, and Claude Delangle.

Awards

 



  • In 1995, Luis Gascón won the Yamaha Young Artist Program competition.




  • In 1998, he was the winner of the USC Concerto Competition.




  • In 1999, he received the first scholarship offered to a classical saxophonist at the prestigious Aspen Music Festival in Colorado.




  • He was a finalist in the 1997 New York Concert Artist Guild Competition.



Career

Nacho Gascón has collaborated with renowned conductors and composers such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Mstislav Rostropovich, John Adams, Eiji Oue, David Robertson, Diego Masson, Michael Stern, Lawrence Foster, and John Casken.

He has premiered works by composers like Robert Linn, Berthold Tüercke, and H.K. Gruber, performing with chamber groups such as The Furious Band, Barcelona 216, and Ensemble Barcelona Nova Música, as well as orchestras like the Los Angeles Philharmonic, New West Symphony, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Orquesta Pablo Sarasate de Pamplona, and the OBC.

Recently, Nacho Gascón joined the saxophone quartet Sax 3 més 1 as a soprano saxophonist. Additionally, he forms part of the duo Solo2 along with the Japanese guitarist Sadahiro Otani.

Teaching

He has served as a saxophone professor at Pomona College and as an assistant professor at the University of Southern California.

In 2001, he became part of the project at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona, where he teaches Saxophone and Chamber Music.
