Lorenzo Ferrandiz

Education

Lorenzo Ferrándiz completed his higher studies in percussion in Alicante under the guidance of Joan García Iborra. He later expanded his training at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, specializing in percussion and chamber music, where he obtained top grades.

Concerts

He was a member of the Percussion Group of Amsterdam (NSA) and the Percussion Duo Elements, with which he performed concerts and masterclasses in major European cities, and recorded numerous works by composers such as Theo Loevendie, Tom de Leeuw, and Jacob ter Veldhuis.

In the summer of 1996, he was part of the Tanglewood Orchestra at the Tanglewood Music Festival in Boston under the artistic direction of Seiji Ozawa.

Since 1995, he has collaborated with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, where he has been the principal guest percussionist since 2005. With this orchestra, he has had the privilege of performing with conductors such as B. Haitink, M. Jansons, R. Chailly, and N. Hartnoncourt, and has participated in numerous recordings.

He was a member of the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España (1992-1995).

Awards

 

He received the "Ady Mootz" and "Honnert.7" awards at the prestigious International Percussion Competition in Luxembourg in 1998.

Career

Since 2011, Lorenzo combines his teaching and percussionist activities with orchestral conducting. He has conducted orchestras such as the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, the Orchestra of Extremadura, Córdoba, the Filharmònica de Catalunya, and the Symphony Orchestra of ESMUC.

He is the principal conductor of the contemporary music group Crossing Lines (Barcelona), and a guest conductor of the Ensemble New Babylon (Bremen), with which he has recorded a monographic CD of the composer Benet Casablancas with the NAXOS record label.

Teaching

He is currently a professor of percussion and chamber music at the Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco (MUSIKENE) and at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC).

He was a percussion professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Aragón (2002-2013) and a percussion and percussion group professor at the Conservatory of Amsterdam (1998-2008).
