Jose Vicente Castello

Education

He studied at the "Reina Sofía" School of Music with Prof. Radovan Vlatkovic, where he received the award for the most outstanding student in 2002 and 2003 from Her Majesty Queen Sofía herself.

Additionally, there were other great professors who influenced his education, such as B. Tuckwell, M. Höltzel, K. Kulmala, R. Watkins, R. Epelde, and V. Zarzo.

Parallel to his musical studies, he pursued a degree in Hispanic Philology at the University of Alicante.

Concerts

He has been the Principal Horn of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester from 2001 to 2006, participating in 11 tours across the most important festivals and venues in Europe and Asia, with conductors C. Abbado, P. Boulez, M. Jansons, I. Fischer, and F. Welser-Möst.

Since 2004, he has been the Principal Horn of the Galicia Symphony Orchestra and frequently collaborates as the first horn with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Muenchener Kammerorchester, Staatskapelle Berlin, Tonhalle Orchester Zurich, and Philharmonia Orchestra in London, performing under conductors like D. Barenboim, T. Sukiev, and A. Schiff.

He has also been invited several times to perform with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra (Switzerland).

Furthermore, since its foundation in 2004, he has been a member of the "Orchestra Mozart" in Bologna, directed by Claudio Abbado and composed of outstanding European musicians.

In the realm of chamber music, he stands out for having played with musicians of the calibre of Mitsuko Uchida, Johnathan Biss, B. Canino, R. Vlatkovic, K. Tunemann, H. Schellemberger, Jacques Zoon, Jaime Martín, Paul Meyer, A. Carbonare, Kim Kashkashian, and members of the Guarnieri, Juilliard, and Emerson string quartets.

Teaching

Since 2008, he has been a Horn Professor at the Conservatori Superior del Liceu, and since 2010, at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) in Barcelona, where he teaches courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

He is also a horn professor at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg (Germany), and the Principal Horn of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
