Education

Born in Granollers, he received his musical training at the Conservatory of this city under the guidance of Josep M. Roger. He continued his studies with Albert Attenelle at the Barcelona School of Music and with Christopher Elton and Nelly Akopian at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he graduated with the highest distinction (DipRAM) in 1992. In 2008, he was honoured by the Associated Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) in London, an award given to its most outstanding alumni.

Concerts

He has won first prizes in numerous national and international competitions. He has performed in the major concert halls and festivals in Spain and most European countries, both as a solo pianist and as a member of chamber music groups. He has also given concerts in America and Asia. Praised by the prestigious American critic Harold C. Schomberg as "a solid and intelligent pianist", Jordi Masó's repertoire includes music from all eras, with a special dedication to 20th and 21st-century music. He has premiered many works dedicated to him by prominent contemporary composers. Since 1996, he has been a member of the BCN 216 group dedicated to the promotion of contemporary music.

Recordings

He is the currently working Catalan pianist with the most extensive discography. He has recorded over sixty albums, most of them for the Naxos label. Among his notable recordings are six CDs featuring the complete piano works of Frederic Mompou and thirteen CDs of the complete works for piano by Joaquín Turina. He has also recorded complete piano works by Robert Gerhard (for both piano and two pianos), Xavier Montsalvatge, Déodat de Sévérac, Joaquim Homs, José Antonio Donostia, Ricard Lamote de Grignon, and Joan Massià. Additionally, he has recorded albums dedicated to Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Josep M. Ruera, Salvador Brotons, Josep Soler, and Benet Casablancas. He has also recorded for other labels such as Marco Polo, Anacrusis, Ficta, ASV, La Mà de Guido, and Columna Música, among others.

He has published eight fiction books: the short story collection "Els reptes de Vladimir" (2010, Témenos 2018), "Catàleg de monstres" (Marcólico-Alpina, 2012), "Les mil i una" (Témenos, 2015), "Polpa" (Males Herbes, 2016), "La biblioteca fantasma" (Males Herbes, 2018), "Ambrosia" (Males Herbes, 2020), and the novel "L'hivern a Corfú" (Males Herbes, 2019). His latest book is "Les males herbes" (Males Herbes, 2022), which has solidified him as "one of the best contemporary storytellers," as praised by El País critic Ponç Puigdevall.


Career

Born in Granollers, and acclaimed by the prestigious American critic Harold C. Schomberg as "a solid and intelligent pianist", Jordi Masó's repertoire includes music from all eras, with a special dedication to 20th-century music, and having premiered many works by important contemporary composers.

He has won first prizes in numerous national and international competitions and has performed in the major concert halls and festivals in Spain and most European countries, both in piano recitals and as a member of chamber music groups. He frequently appears as a soloist with major orchestras in the country.

Teaching

Since 2002, he has been a professor at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya. He is also a piano professor at the Josep M. Ruera Conservatory in Granollers. He has given masterclasses at schools and conservatories in Catalonia and the United Kingdom.
