As a soloist, he has stood out in his recent performances at the City of London Festival with the Tòquio Quartet, at the Clasique Festival in The Hague with the Brodsky Quartet, at the Festival de Trasimeno-Italia with Angela Hewitt and the Jerusalem Quartet, and at the premiere of the new concerto by Sánchez-Verd in Madrid with the Orquesta Nacional de España.

He has worked as a member of important orchestras such as the Bournemouth Sinfonietta, the Royal Philharmonic, and the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, among others; collaborating with conductors like Abbado, Gergiev, Haitink, Sanderling, and Harnoncourt. As a soloist, he has been accompanied by Marriner, Noseda, Rozhdestvensky, and Talmi.

He co-founded the Cadaqués Orchestra and serves as a soloist with them. Recently, Lluna was appointed by Lorin Maazel as the principal clarinet of the Valencia Orchestra at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía.

Recordings

His discography includes a wide range of recordings, from Mozart's clarinet concerto and quintet with the English Chamber Orchestra and the Brodsky Quartet (Cala-UR) to Montsalvatge's Fola Daliniana (Trit).

Among his latest albums, the most notable ones are: Mozart's clarinet concerto with Marriner and the Orquestra de Cadaqués (Trit), Brahms's opus 114 and 115 with the Tòquio Quartet, Claret, and Colom (Harmonia Mundi); Mozart's Gran Partita with Moonwinds (HM), and Joan Guinjoan's concerto composed for and with the OBC (HM).

He has dedicated several recordings to Spanish clarinet repertoire, such as "Fantasías Mediterráneas" (Clarinet Classics), “Capricho Pintoresco”, and “Rossini, y España” (Harmonia Mundi). Upcoming releases include “Una cosa rara”, “Harmoniemuziek” by Martner and Soler with Moonwinds (HM), and Sánchez-Verd's concerto "Elogi de l’Horitzó" with the Orquesta Nacional de España and Hartz-Bedoya (Kairos).

Additionally, Lluna has been involved in the edition and publication of Spanish music, particularly with the Trit publishing house.

Career

Joan Enric Lluna is a versatile musician who engages in different facets of musical activities.

In accordance with his commitment to contemporary creation, he has been involved in projects with composers like Tavener, Guinjoan, Barker, Zelbejan, CSAR Cano, or Sánchez-Verd. Furthermore, he also performed in the Spanish premiere of John Adams' work "Gnarly Buttons".

This experience has led him to develop a clear interest in orchestra conducting. After being part of the Valencia Academic Orchestra and being mentored by Maestro Jorma Panula, Lluna has collaborated with various Spanish orchestras. In London, he co-founded and co-directed "I Maestri", a project dedicated to the training of conductors and performers. He has recently received invitations from orchestras in Spain, Finland, Romania, and the United Kingdom.

Teaching

Joan is a professor at the Trinity College of Music in London and the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (Barcelona). He is regularly invited by prestigious institutions to give classes and recitals.

More recently, he has been invited to the Royal Academy of Music in London, the Conservatories of Amsterdam and Trento (Italy), and has upcoming invitations in New York, California, Argentina, and the Netherlands.
