Education

He began his musical studies in his city and later joined the Escolania de Montserrat, under the direction of Ireneu Segarra, and at the conservatories of Badalona and Barcelona, studying violin and piano.

Parallelly, he studied singing and chamber music and earned a degree in Art History from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

He also attended choral conducting courses with Manuel Cabero, Pierre Cao, and Lászlo Heltay, and orchestral conducting courses with Antoni Ros-Marbà.

In 1997, he moved to Vienna to study conducting at the Konservatorium der Stadt Wien with professors Reinhard Schwarz and Georg Mark. He graduated with the highest honours, conducting the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra at the Viennese Konzerthaus, performing works by Elgar and Montsalvatge.

Recordings

He has recorded several albums, including a CD for Columna Música with the Forum Vocal Chamber Choir, of which he was the principal conductor. He has also recorded for Austrian and South African radios, and for RNE-Radio Clásica and Catalunya Música.

Career

In 2002, he moved to South Africa, where he became the conductor of the Cape Town Opera Chorus. In South Africa, he made his opera directorial debut with "La Traviata" and conducted several symphonic concerts with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra. He also participated as an assistant conductor in the historic production of "Fidelio" at Nelson Mandela's prison on Robben Island, and was invited to be a jury member in various choral competitions in Cape Town, Pretoria, and Durban.

During the 2004-2005 season, he served as an assistant conductor in various productions at the Gran Teatre del Liceu and returned in recent seasons with "La Bohème", "Il Trovatore", and "L’Elisir d'Amore". Since 2005, he has been a chamber music teacher and has regularly conducted the Choir, Chamber Orchestra, and Symphony Orchestra of the Conservatori Superior del Liceu. He was also the director of the Jove Companyia d’Òpera, with which he conducted operas by Salieri, Mozart, Bizet, Von Suppé, Toldrà, Donizetti, Puccini, Menotti, and Rossini.

In Vienna, he conducts various choral and instrumental groups and is a member of the Arnold Schoenberg Chor, with which he acts as an assistant conductor in various productions under the direction of Erwin Ortner, Claudio Abbado, or Nikolaus Harnoncourt. He has been invited to conduct the European Youth Singers in Prague, the Camerata Musica Wien in Austria, and has founded the Coro Exaudio and Camerata Gaudí, performing at various festivals in Catalonia.

He served as the principal conductor of the Jove Orquestra Simfònica Gèrminans (2004-2006), as an assistant conductor of the Chamber Choir of the Palau de la Música Catalana (2005-2011), principal conductor of the Choir of the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada (2005-2012), and since the 2013-14 season, of the Coral Càrmina. There, he conducted the 20th Century Ensemble, the Early Music Ensemble, and the Symphonic Orchestra, and was the musical director of its Opera Workshop in productions of operas by Mozart, Britten, Donizetti, Händel, and in the historical recovery of the opera "Titaina" by Enric Morera at the TNC.

He has been invited to conduct the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada at the Manuel de Falla Auditorium on several occasions, as well as the Orquestra Nacional Clàssica d’Andorra and the Terrassa 48 Orchestra at the Palau de la Música Catalana. Recently, he has conducted the Camerata XXI Symphony Orchestra, the Girona Orchestra, the Barcelona Baroque Orchestra, and the Catalan Baroque Orchestra, among other choirs and orchestras. He has also conducted opera seasons at the Teatro Principal de Palma and the Teatro Principal de Maó. It is worth mentioning his debut conducting the Cobla Mediterrània at the Pau Casals Festival and the Cobla Sant Jordi-Ciutat de Barcelona, as well as the Percussions de Barcelona at the Auditori de Barcelona and the Festival de la Porta Ferrada.

His commitment to contemporary music has led him to commission and premiere works by composers such as Bernat Vivancos, Albert Carbonell, Xavier Pagès Corella, Josep M. Guix, Carles Prat, Concepció Ramió, or Joan Magrané.

Since 2012, he has regularly conducted the Terres de Marca Orchestra in various concerts in his hometown and at the Festival de Música de San Pere de Roda. He has also been invited to participate as a conductor in several national and international courses and festivals, such as the International Music Course of Cervera, the International Festival of Choral Singing in Barcelona, or the Europa Cantat Festival in Torino (Italy) and Pécs (Hungary), as well as Buenos Aires (Argentina), and Beijing (China). Recently, he has been invited to Colombia by the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra to conduct their Youth Philharmonic Choir and to teach master classes for conductors.

He was the musical director in the Great Concert for Refugees, which took place at the Palau Sant Jordi in February 2017, leading the Coral Càrmina, the Symphony Orchestra of ESMUC, the Fura dels Baus, and other renowned artists. He was also the artistic director of the Concert in Honor of P. Ireneu Segarra, which took place on November 19, 2017, at the Palau de la Música Catalana, where he conducted the world premiere of Adrià Barbosa's Suite "Juguem Cantant" with the Orquestra Simfònica d’Antics Escolans and 400 children from Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.

Since 2020, he has been the head of the Technical Team of the Catalan Federation of Choral Entities (FCEC), and artistic advisor to the World Youth Choir.
