Pestalozzi Cristoforo

Education

Born in Lugano (Switzerland), Cristoforo Pestalozzi studied with Mauro Poggio, Claude Starck (Zurich Conservatory), Wolfgang Boettcher (Hochschule der Künste, Berlin), Janos Starker (Indiana University Bloomington, USA), and Götz Teutsch (Karajan Foundation, Berlin).

Career

As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras such as the Philarmonia Hungarica, the Chicago Northwest Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Della Svizzera Italiana, and the Orquestra Simfònica del Gran Teatre del Liceu.

In the chamber music field, he has played with ensembles such as the Pan Artis String Trio, the Twelve Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Trio del Liceu.

In recitals, he has performed, among others, the complete Beethoven Sonatas at Festivals such as the Newbury Spring Festival and the Féstival de l’Oragérie de Sceaux.

Between 1991 and 2001, he held the position of Cello Soloist at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and since 2001, he has been the Cello Soloist of the Orquestra Simfònica del Gran Teatre del Liceu.

Teaching

He has been a professor at the Academies of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, and has taught classes and master courses in Saint Vaast La Hougue, the Conservatoire de Paris, and at the International Music Festivals of Tarragona and Cervera.

Since 2004, he has also been a Cello professor at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya.
