Plana Cati

Education

Cati Plana began her journey in diatonic accordion with the old accordionists from the Pyrenees, guided by Artur Blasco, with whom she shared the stage during the 1980s, as well as with Francesc Marimon. Later, she honed her skills in traditional music with various specialists during stays in France, England, and Québec, including Antoine Dénize, Roberto Santiago, Alain Floutard, Mario Salvi, Yann Dour, Maties Mazarico, Vincenzo Caglioti, Patrick Cadeillan, Pierre Marie Blajà, Andy Cutting, Brian McNeill, Norbert Pignol, and Stéphane Milleret.

She complemented her training with studies at the AMTP of the Generalitat de Catalunya, obtaining degrees such as a Master Instrumentalist with a specialisation in diatonic accordion; Master in Music Teaching (UB), in Classical Music and Piano at the Liceu, in Popular Music and Trombone at the Taller de Músics with Sergi Vergés, in Music Sciences and History (UAB), with a mention in Ethnomusicology (ESMUC). She also holds a Bacherlor’s degree from ESMUC, specialising in diatonic accordion, and a Master's degree in Musicology and Musical Education (UAB).

Recordings

She has recorded around fifteen albums with groups such as Sol de Nit, Adolfo Osta, Marsupialis, El Pont d’Arcalís, A granel, La Viu-viu, Heura Gaya, Els tres peus del gat, a duet with Pau Puig, and Tren Seeger; and has collaborated in fifteen other recordings with groups like Quico el Célio, el Noi i el Mut de Ferreries, Tapia eta Leturia, Segi Trenzano, or Josep Maria Bonet.

Research

Regarding research and publications, she has carried out the following:


  • (2005, March-December): Scholarship for research on the ethnological heritage of Catalonia, granted by the Centre for the Promotion of Catalan Popular and Traditional Culture: “L’activitat del músic individual a les comarques de l’Alt Urgell i del Camp de Tarragona”.

  • (2006-07): Research and documentation project for IPEC. Direction and coordination of the project: “L’inventari i catalogació de part de la col.lecció d’instruments del Museu de l’Acordió d’Arsèguel”.

  • (2006, June): Revista de Etnología de Cataluña. Núm.28. “Francesc Sanvicens, el Ferrer del Quer. Ferrer i acordionista”pàg.111-12.

  • (2008-09): Research and documentation project for IPEC. Direction and coordination of the project: “Estudi de l’acordió diatònic i la figura del músic individual als Pirineus, a partir del fons del Museu de l’Acordió d’Arsèguel”.

  • (2008): Collaboration in the project “La Mare dels Ous”. Compilation of sheet music for diatonic accordion. Compiled by Guida Sellarès, edited by Dinsic.

  • (2012): Collaboration in the commentaries of sheet music in the book: 21 piezas para el acordeón diatónico de Marcel Casellas, edited by Dinsic in 2013.

  • (2016-21): alongside Isidre Pélaez, she works on the harmonisation of melodies for the work "Balls i Danses del Pirineu", edited by C.A.T. EDICIONS. The work gathers dances from the Catalan Pyrenees, from Vall d'Aran to Cap de Creus, including the northern Catalan, northern French, and the Ribagorza (Aragon) regions. The following volumes have already been published:

Career

Compagina la seva tasca docent amb la investigació i l'activitat artística amb El Pont d'Arcalís, Tren Seeger, Marsupialis, Adolfo Osta, La Viu-viu, Els 3 peus del Gat, Duet Pau Puig i Cati Plana i amb la intèrpret Heura Gaya.

Teaching

She currently develops her teaching activity at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya and at schools specialised in traditional music: Escola Folk del Pirineu, Aula de Músiques de la Terra de Tortosa, Tallers al Centre Artesà Tradicionàrius and the Aula de Sons de Reus.
