Barcelona Fiddle Congress
Since 2013, ESMUC has organised the Barcelona Fiddle Congress, a meeting that aims to consolidate a space for debate around bowed string instruments within the popular musical tradition. The congress has achieved successful turnouts in all its editions.
Fiddle is the word that Anglo-Saxons use to refer to the violin in the folk context. The Barcelona Fiddle Congress has introduced other ways of playing string instruments. A project that ESMUC takes on as a sign of its commitment to a musical education that encompasses all styles.
The extensive activity programme includes conferences, debates, masterclasses, workshops, concerts, and sample luthier exhibitors.

On July 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 2022, the fourth edition of the Barcelona Fiddle Congress took place, with professors of the stature of Asier Suberbiola, Coloma Bertrán, Stanislaw Slowiński, Natalie Haas and Galen Fraser, among others. The activities and concerts were held in the ESMUC classrooms and in collaborating institutions. The instruments that were invited to participate were the violin, the viola, the cello, and the double bass.
After two years of cancellation due to the pandemic, this edition has consolidated the meeting, confirming the existence of a public interested in bowed string instruments within the popular musical tradition. The three concerts open to the public that were scheduled have filled their respective spaces, highlighting the presence of more than 500 people at the great outdoor performance offered by the students and teachers of the congress in Parc Güell.
Fiddle Pro
Fiddle Pro is a space for professionals, suppliers, technicians and musical instrument shops. During the congress, there are luthiers who display their instruments, products and services.
Gonzalo Piarrette
Violinist. Focused on the construction of new instruments; seeking to create works with its own personality. He has a workshop in Germany.

Sergio Chanquia
He graduated as a luthier at the Bele school of violing making in Bilbao. In Paris he began his training as an archetier at the S. Raffin atelier, , specialising in the restoration and manufacture of bows. In 2020 he opened his own atelier.

Iñaki Arguiñarena
He began building classical guitars at the Escuela de Artes y Artesanías Pedro Figari (Montevideo) and ended up opening Arginarena Dellepiane Luthier in Navarra.

Kepa Rubio
He studied at the Escola de Lutheria de Bilbao in Bilbao and has since been building bowed string instruments in a small town in Álava. He specialised in violins, violas, cellos, and quintons (five-string violins).
