Specific Competences

PE2: Design, select, implement and evaluate music teaching and learning activities, materials and resources according to the needs of each educational context, demonstrating versatility in the use of instruments and other musical resources, and making effective use of new technologies.

PE4: Acquire technical mastery and expressive skills in performance and in directing vocal and instrumental ensembles as a basis for improvisation, creation and experimentation with one’s own instrument, voice and body in specific music teaching and learning situations.

PE5: Be able to develop community-oriented music education practice as both a musician and music educator.

PE6: Contextualise music pedagogy within contemporary society and different cultural settings, reflecting critically on the role and outcomes of music education in improving individuals and society.

Learning outcomes (general objectives)

1. Select, design and implement music teaching and learning activities and the materials required for their development.

2. Adapt and apply teaching approaches from different music education methodologies and schools of thought to a range of educational situations.

3. Demonstrate autonomy in continuing professional learning and in developing pedagogical practice by selecting and producing teaching materials aligned with established learning objectives.

4. Integrate and systematically relate the contents of the course with those of other music subjects and, where appropriate, with non-musical disciplines.

5. Extend and complement knowledge of the specialisation through familiarity with current pedagogical trends and practices, particularly those based on cooperative models and creative, interdisciplinary exchange of ideas.

6. Reflect on and discuss pedagogical practice in order to identify the prior conditions, interactions and mechanisms that influence teaching practice.

7. Demonstrate sufficient knowledge and technical resources to harmonise, orchestrate, adapt and arrange musical works from different genres, styles and historical periods.

Contextualisation of teaching practice. Critical analysis and development of curriculum proposals for secondary education. Design of teaching and learning strategies for specific content areas. Planning of classroom activity sequences. Selection and development of teaching materials.

Selection and development of appropriate teaching materials and resources. Design of teaching and learning strategies for each thematic area.

Group music pedagogy. Specific teaching materials and resources. Design and implementation of differentiated teaching strategies, together with the development and adaptation of teaching materials for both group and individual instrumental instruction. Design of strategies and selection and preparation of materials for teaching specific content at different educational stages. Planning of classroom activity sequences.

Understanding the context of the community in which educational intervention takes place from sociological, cultural, relational and emotional perspectives. Attention to diversity within the groups involved. Characteristics and uses of music as an educational tool that promotes social and educational equity and social cohesion. The importance of a personal attitude characterised by trust, generosity, commitment and adaptability to individual and collective otherness in addressing the challenges of community-based educational practice.
