Learning outcomes (general objectives)

  1. Understand music as an economic phenomenon that generates wealth through direct, indirect and induced impacts.
  2. Analyse musical reality from its economic dimension.
  3. Use conceptual tools from economic science to analyse the cultural and musical sector.
  4. Master the main economic parameters that allow quantification of the cultural and musical sector.
  5. Understand the different sectoral, academic and social debates surrounding the intersection of these two fields.
  6. Critically understand the impact of economics on culture and of culture on economics.

Contents

Economic theory and culture. The economic context of music. The economic impact of musical activity. Economic data on music: Catalonia, Spain, world.

Teaching methodology

Teaching–learning methodology includes lectures (topic presentations), debate and discussion sessions, group work sessions, and student‑led presentations.

Assessment systems

Continuous assessment based on diagnostic evaluation and formalised through summative assessment leading to the final grade. Continuous assessment is carried out through various evaluation records derived from activities such as class participation and work, presentation of assignments, completion of written work and/or readings outside class, submission of written tasks, or written and oral examinations.
