Learning outcomes (general objectives)

1. Compose and arrange specifically for Flamenco instruments.
2. Demonstrate mastery of the idiomatic and expressive resources of Flamenco instruments, knowing how to use them together while controlling the stylistically appropriate phrasing.
3. Develop analytical skills regarding the different characteristics, styles and variants of Flamenco music.
4. Understand and formalise the technical, rhythmic, harmonic and melodic aspects involved in Flamenco music at the levels of composition and improvisation.
5. Compare and contextualise the distinctive musical characteristics of Flamenco in relation to other traditional musics.
6. Develop techniques and criteria for Flamenco musical notation.
7. Recognise, identify and explain theoretically and practically —through notation, documents and audiovisual media— the fundamental elements and palos of Flamenco styles (music and texts), within historical transformation processes, and place them in relation to other contemporary musics.
8. Analyse and assess the historical development of Flamenco styles and performers, in relation to the social and cultural environments in which they have spread, and evaluate the corresponding historiography.
9. Compare theoretical works on Flamenco music related to styles, transformation processes and social life through music.

Flamenco rhythms, rhythmic amalgamations and permutations. Metric rhythm and accentual rhythm. Melismatic forms and variations. Microtonal aspects. The Flamenco mode: harmonic and tonal relationships. Historical development of Flamenco technique. Influences, incorporations and harmonic expansion in contemporary Flamenco. Formal structures: the relationship between singing, guitar, percussion and dance. Recognition and analysis of Flamenco-specific musical elements. Geographic location of different styles and variants. Practical instrumental knowledge (voice, melodic-harmonic or percussion instruments) of the different Flamenco rhythms and techniques. Teaching methodology

The teaching-learning methodology in classes includes master classes (presentation of topics), discussion and colloquium sessions, group work sessions and student presentations of topics. Independent work involves compositions, study of works and written assignments, carried out individually or in groups.
