Learning outcomes (general objectives)
- Develop the ability to interact with different interlocutors and languages.
- Understand musical phenomena as an activity that must be conceived within the social and cultural life of a community, considering the different conceptions of music, the functions and contexts in which it is used, and the social attitudes and values it may convey.
- Know the proposals, trends, languages and structural concepts of music, the theoretical foundations, and the most important approaches, systems and methodologies of musical and cultural analysis and thought during the period from the beginning of the 20th century to the 1970s.
- Share spaces for guided debate and dialogue on the various methods and approaches through which musical form and construction are developed in the works, authors or trends under study.
- Have a global vision of music as a product that must be communicated and disseminated to diverse profiles of citizens and consumers.
- Apply sales and product/service marketing techniques adapted to the specific characteristics of music.
- Understand the role of music in the new global environment, as well as interpret the areas where communication and cultural logics converge.
- Understand and apply new digital communication tools, such as social networks, in the musical field.

Analysis of musical situations from a sociological perspective and of the main working methodologies of this discipline. Positioning of sociological lines of thought within their corresponding cultural traditions.
The logic of music distribution. Live music. Recorded music. Social networks as a means of dissemination, communication and interaction. The functioning of the music business. Types of musical ensembles: specific characteristics in relation to their markets and management. The transformation of music production: consequences and applications for distribution. The evolution of the music business.
Processes and structures specific to the music industry (composers, publishers, performers, producers, managers, technicians and engineers, record labels, promoters, distributors, sellers). Types of legal contracts in the music industry. Laws and organisations protecting intellectual property.

Teaching methodology
