Xavier Barbeta

Education

Xavier Barbeta (1976) studied at the Superior Conservatory of Music in Badalona with Nati Cubells, where he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Piano with the highest qualifications and Conservatory Honors.

He continued his training in Russia with pianist Leonid Sintsev at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg (1997-2002). During his training, he also received masterclasses from Ricardo Cechetti, Guennady Dziubenko, Igor Lebedev, Paul Badura-Skoda, Pierre Reách, Edith Fischer, Victor Teuflmayr, and Dimitri Bashkirov, among others.

Concerts

He has performed in recitals and chamber ensembles in Spain, Austria, Italy, and Russia. In 2003, he made his debut as a soloist at the Auditori de Barcelona, performing Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, and since 2005, he has been a regular collaborator with the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya (OBC).

Recordings

He has participated in numerous instrumental projects and recordings with groups such as BCN-216, Banda Simfónica de Barcelona, Murtra Ensemble or Fermata Contemporània. He has recorded solo piano works by Beethoven, Schumann, and Mompou for Anacrusi .

Awards

He won 1st prize at the Concurso Nacional de piano Jacinto Guerrero (Toledo, 1995), ), and 4th at the “Dichler-Sato Competition” (Viena, 2002).

Career

In 2010, he obtained a DEA (Advanced Studies Diploma) in Musicology from UAB with a study on Manuel de Falla's Baetic Fantasia . He has translated various articles on Russian pedagogy for children's piano education by the famous Russian pedagogue Samari Savshinskii. From 2012 to 2016, he regularly participated in working groups at the ICON (Innovative Conservatoire Seminars) in the UK. He is a founding member of the Leonid Sintsev Piano Association and president of Joventuts Musicals de Vilassar de Mar, an association that organizes the annual "Rosa Sabater" Music Festival.

Teaching

He was a piano teacher at the Professional Conservatory of Music in Terrassa (2007-2009) and has been a professor at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) since 2005. He has taught courses and masterclasses at various music schools and professional conservatories in Catalonia and Spain, at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in Tallinn, at the Conservatorio Umberto Giordano in Foggia, and at the Puigcerdà International Summer Music Academy. He has been part of juries in piano competitions such as the Concurs Joventuts Musicals de Sant Cugat (2011), the Benaguasil Piano Competition 2012, and the Ciutat de Mataró Competition (jury president since 2016).
