Josep Surinyac

Pianist specialised in vocal repertoire.

Education

He was born in Torelló (Barcelona), where he began his musical studies with M. Serra. He obtained the Bachelor’s degree in Piano and Chamber Music at the Conservatory of Barcelona with M. J. Crespo and A. Soler. He later expanded his studies at the Guildhall School of Music in London with G. Johnson. He has been awarded in several national and international competitions in the Chamber Music and Lied categories.

Recordings

Recently, he has recorded a CD with melodies by Poulenc with soprano Maria Lluïsa Muntada. His discography also includes two CDs with vocal music by Granados and Toldrá with the same soprano, as well as "Winterreise" by Schubert with E. Martínez-Castignani.

Career

His interest in vocal repertoire has led him to collaborate with singers such as F. Albrich, D. Aldea, D. Alegret, N. Argenta, E. Copons, L. Dawson, J. Domènech, U. Haller, B. Kusa, M. Lladó, E. Martínez-Castignani, M. Martins, A. Mateu, R. Mateu, M. Matheu, I. Moraleda, Ll. Muntada, R. Padullés, S. Palatchi, R. Pierotti, A. Savall, I. Sobotka, P. Udland, or Ll. Vilamajó, among others. As an accompanist, he has performed in various Spanish cities, as well as in different European cities, Israel, the United States, and Japan.

He has participated in important Lied cycles such as the Life Victoria Festival and has been invited to participate in the Schubertíada in Vilabertran to accompany M. Martins' recitals, with notable success among the public and critics.

Currently, he is the pianist of the Girl’s Choir of the Orfeó Català, directed by B. Reixach. He has also been invited several times by the "La Caixa" Foundation to accompany the singing masterclasses of Nancy Argenta or Lynn Dawson within the framework of the Historical Performance Course held in various Spanish cities.

Teaching

He is a professor of Lied and Chamber Music at the Conservatori Superior del Liceu and at the ESMUC.
