Education

Born in Zaragoza, he began his musical studies as a choirboy in the Escolanía de Infantes del Pilar, under the guidance of José Vicente González Valle. He later studied organ and harpsichord in Zaragoza, where he graduated with the Extraordinary End of Degree Award. He furthered his studies with Montserrat Torrent and also received lessons from masters like M. Radulescu, M. C. Alain, L. Rogg, F. H. Houbard, and K. Schnorr, among others.

Concerts

He has performed in concerts around Europe, Asia, and America at major festivals dedicated to the organ and Early Music, both as a soloist and as a member of chamber groups like Ministrils de Marsias, Les Sacqueboutiers de Tolosa, I Turchini, among others. He has collaborated as an assistant conductor and cimbalom player in opera productions in various Spanish theaters, including notable performances in L'Incoronazione di Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi, conducted by Maestro Antonio Florio, and La clemenza di Tito by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Recordings

Among his solo recordings, Tocar amb Art (awarded five Goldberg stars) stands out. He also recorded Organs in Dialogue,with João Vaz, at the monumental ensemble of the Igreja dos Clergues in Porto. Additionally, he recorded CDs titled Traços dels Ministrils and Invencions de glosses-Antonio de Cabezón with the Ministrils de Marsias group (both awarded by different institutions).

Research

Internationally recognized as a specialist in historical Spanish keyboard music, Javier Artigas has edited and studied works for keyboard by Jusepe Ximénez and Fra Joan Bermudo, published by the Institución Fernando el Católico (IFC). He is also a member of the scientific team of CSIC and IFC, responsible for transcribing and critically editing works for keyboard, harp, and vihuela by Antonio de Cabezón. He is currently preparing the critical edition of the keyboard works of Sebastián Aguilera de Heredia.

Teaching

He gives master classes and seminars dedicated to the interpretation of Early Music at numerous universities and higher education institutions in both Europe and America.

He holds the position of Professor of Organ and Harpsichord and is the Head of the Department of Early Music at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Murcia. He is an academic at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes Nuestra Señora de la Arrixaca in Murcia. Moreover, he teaches at various institutions, including the Course of Early Music in Daroca, the Semaine de l'Orgue Italien à Saorj, and the Course of Early Music in Callosa d'en Sarrià. He is also associated with the Department of Early Music at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya and serves as the technical director of the Festival de Música Antigua de Daroca and the Jornadas de Órgano de Zaragoza.
