Education

At the age of 10, he joined the Escolania de Montserrat, where he began studying piano, violin, and singing, standing out as a soloist. Later, he also studied at the Conservatory of Barcelona and Sabadell.

In 1989, he moved to Vienna to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna under Leopold Hager. Five years later, supported by scholarships from Spanish and Austrian institutions, he graduated in Orchestral and Choral Conducting from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

He has contributed to the Revista Musical Catalana and the Österreichische Musik Zeitschrift, among other specialised music and orchestration publications.

Career

He was the conductor of the Coro Príncipe de Asturias in Oviedo. During this period, he had his first contacts with professional orchestra conducting, and directing, among others, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Asturias, the Orquesta de la Universidad de Oviedo, and the Youth Symphonic of Wales.

During his time in Vienna, he was a member of the Arnold Schönberg Choir, with which he participated in various productions and recordings for the Vienna State Opera with Claudio Abbado. He also performed numerous concerts and recordings with Nicolaus Harnoncourt and Concentus Musicus. The allure of Vienna kept him there for an additional five years, during which he was the conductor of the Mariahilf of Viena. He also led other Austrian ensembles such as the Tonkunst Orchestra, Vienna Waltzer Orchestra, Vienna Chamber Opera, Concentus Vocalis, Wiener Singakademie, Motetten Chor, among others; and performed in prestigious Viennese venues like Musikverein, Konzert Haus, Theater Odeon, and the International Festival of Krems.

In 1999, ten years after living in close contact with the Viennese music scene, Lluís Vila returned to Catalonia, where he conducted various orchestras, choirs, and choral societies, including the 'Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, Orquestra Simfònica de l'Empordà, Orquesta Barroca Catalana, Coro Nacional de España, Bulgarian Radio Orchestra, Orquesta de Cámara de Cervera, Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid, Coro Lieder Camera, Orfeón Universitario de Valencia, etc.

For three years, he served as an assistant conductor of the Choir at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. Currently, he is the director of the Coral Sant Jordi, Coro Contrapunto Vocale, and the Orquestra Clàssica de Castellbisbal, and a professor at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya.
