Jorge Mesa Valle
Department of Jazz, Flamenco, Popular and Traditional Catalan Music
Jorge Mesa Valle, known artistically as "El Pirata," began his journey into the world of flamenco at a very young age, thanks to his parents and especially his father, a great enthusiast who instilled in him an appreciation for this art form, finding in flamenco a way of life. He cultivated his learning in a self-taught manner and since the year 2000, he has developed it in various venues, flamenco companies, and tablaos throughout Spain. He holds a degree in the flamenco voice modality from the Escuela de Flamenco de Andalucía (EFA).
With over 20 years of experience as a cantaor and in palmas, he has had the privilege of sharing the stage with great figures of the guitar, singing, and, above all, flamenco dancing, such as Antonio Canales, Juan De Juan, Rafaela Carrasco, El Junco, La Lupi, Juan Carlos Lleida, Guadiana, Antonio Reyes, or Rosalía, among others.
He is also part of major contemporary flamenco projects, which have allowed him to participate in various festivals and theatres at the national and international levels: Akademie der Künste, Palau de la Música, the Auditori, Palau Sant Jordi, Teatro Apolo, Teatro Poliorama, Mercat de les Flors, Teatre Lliure, Sala Apolo, among other examples.
China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Poland, France, Switzerland, Vienna, Brussels... are some of the international countries and locations he has toured thanks to these projects.
He has recorded collaborations on albums such as Rosario la Tremendita's "A temps", Niko Torres project, "Miscel·ladi" with Eladio Reinon, Yazan Ibrahim's "Shams", Babel, and Jesús Catalan "Puchero" (Bordó flamenco).
He has been working as a PSD teacher within the Jazz, Flamenco, Popular, and Traditional Catalan Music department at ESMUC since 2012. He also combines his work at the school with various flamenco and contemporary flamenco projects.
