Ismael Alcina (1986 Cádiz) is a bass player, composer and teacher.

Education



  • Teacher Training in Music Education (UCA, 2008)

  • Higher degree in electric bass in jazz and modern music (ESMUC, 2014)

  • Master in Flamencology (ESMUC, 2023)

  • PhD student in Musicology at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM)


Career

From a young age, he was deeply connected to the local folklore and flamenco, and he learned music in a self-taught way. Since then, almost 20 years ago, he established himself as a session musician for tours and recordings of several relevant artists on the national scene (David de Maria, Lya, India Martínez, Alba Molina, Pau Figueres, José Carlos Gómez, Antonio Lizana, Rycardo Moreno, Carles Dénia, among others).

As a leader and composer, he has released two albums so far, "Bass Life" (Whatabout jazz, 2016) and "Scheria" (Youkali music, 2020), presented at numerous festivals and national venues and in specialized national and international media. He also released two eponymous songbooks with the compositions and transcriptions of bass solos from his albums.

Teaching

Currently, he is part of various musical projects, conducts workshops, recordings, and works as a teacher at ESMUC (Master's Degree in Flamenco), at the Taller de Musics ESEM, the Escola d'Arts en Viu del Prat, online school https://escueladebajistas.com
