Divulgator, researcher, creator, and cultural activist. She combines teaching with a variety of scientific, artistic, and educational activities in collaboration with communities, institutions, universities, museums, festivals, and local and international media.

Education

Ph.D. in History and Analysis of Musical Cultures (La Sapienza University, Rome, 2008), she also graduated cum laude in Conservation of Cultural Heritage (Ca' Foscari University, Venice, 2003). She specialises in intangible heritage, field research, African and Islamic world music, and sound studies.

Research

Her research lines cover ethnomusicology, sound and sensory studies, and sound art. In ethnomusicology, she specialises in Ethiopian music (ethnography and musical analysis, women and children's repertoires in Islamic communities, sung poetry, Christian liturgical music, diasporic music, and pop). She also researches Gnawa music and is interested in other musical traditions, styles, practices, and cultures. In sound studies, she focuses on phonography and acoustemology, particularly in sound mappings, sound education, and public participation in the urban sound space of Barcelona. She promotes transdisciplinary, creative, and participatory approaches and projects in the entire soundscape, and particularly studies the sound territory of Barceloneta, also from a gender perspective.
