Learning outcomes (general objectives)

1. Develop the sensitivity required to determine which sound characteristics are most appropriate for a specific musical or audiovisual production.
2. Possess the conceptual tools necessary to sonically realise the needs and guidelines established by the production team of a sound project, applying appropriate aesthetic criteria.

Contents

Sound in different media. Sound design and sound creation. Methods for sound creation. Types and functions of sounds in a production. Sound effects. Electronic patches. Fundamentals of audiovisual semiotics. Sound production. Development of sound production plans. Generation and manipulation of sound effects. Generation and manipulation of synthetic sounds. Sound design for a specific sound production: concert, television programme or other types of productions.

Teaching methodology

The teaching-learning methodology in classes includes lectures (presentation of topics), discussion and seminar sessions, group work sessions and student presentations of topics.

Assessment systems

The assessment system is based on continuous assessment, founded on diagnostic evaluation and developed into summative evaluation resulting in the final grade.

Continuous assessment is carried out through different assessment records derived from specific activities, such as participation and class work, presentation of assignments in class, completion of assignments and/or readings outside class, submission of written work or written and oral examinations.
