Specific competences

PE1: To understand and explain the foundations of contemporary music pedagogy, both in the area of systematic knowledge and in its application, and to base critical reflection on one’s own and others’ musical educational practice on these foundations.

PE5: To be able to develop an educational-musical practice, as an artist and music educator, oriented towards the community.

PE6: To contextualize music pedagogy in the present time and in different cultural contexts, critically reflecting on the role and results that music education practice can contribute to the improvement of individuals and society.

PE8: To actively participate in educational-musical projects through cooperative work and assume responsibility for developing the music education profession as a collective task.

Learning outcomes (general objectives)

1. To systematically integrate and interrelate the contents of the subject, those of different music subjects and, where applicable, those of non-musical subjects.

2. To expand and complement knowledge of the specialty through awareness of current pedagogical trends and practices, especially those applying cooperative models and creative, interdisciplinary exchange of ideas.

3. To reflect and debate on pedagogical practice in order to discover the prior conditions, interactions and different mechanisms that influence the development of teaching practice.

4. To demonstrate autonomy in continuing to learn and in developing pedagogical work, designing teaching situations and materials according to appropriate criteria and established objectives.

Contents

Interrelation between the contents of a subject. Interrelation between contents from different subjects. New trends in didactics: application to music. New trends in music pedagogy. Recently developed teaching and assessment experiences. Design of teaching units and contexts, as well as disciplinary and interdisciplinary projects. Systematic research and analysis of new experiences and new trends in music education. Development of reflective attitudes towards one’s own and others’ teaching-learning practices. Completion of cooperative teamwork activities. Development of assessment scenarios.

Teaching methodology

The teaching-learning methodology in classes includes lecture sessions (presentation of topics), discussion and debate sessions, group work sessions and student presentations.
