Learning outcomes (general objectives)

  1. Develop versatility and adaptability to diverse situations, fostering continuous self‑learning.
  2. Possess the agility required to use improvisational patterns appropriate to each situation.
  3. Develop versatility and spontaneity with the instrument, as well as coordination skills with other performers through improvisation.
  4. Acquire communicative resources and interpretative skills characteristic of the performing arts.
  5. Perform lyric repertoire scenically. Develop an attitude and methodology for studying and approaching musical works from analytical and musical perspectives, critically evaluating the main analytical methodologies and their strengths and limitations in relation to the work studied.

Contents

Principles of dramatic art applied to stage music. Elements of interpretation of standard lyric‑stage repertoire. Application of dramatic principles to performance. Diction. Stage movement. Character construction and interpretation. Performance of operetta, zarzuela, musical theatre and opera from all periods. Knowledge of specific physical training mechanics for the simultaneity of movement, sound and expressiveness. Awareness of elements of dramatic and musical text, action constraints and scenic life: expressive body, movement, emotional intensities. Specific mechanics for character construction through dramatic‑musical text: typology, stereotypes, registers and character dimensions based on text and music (comic repertoire). Learning mechanics for creating scenic action and life from text and music, and from the staging process: character construction; scene assembly.

Teaching methodology

Collective class instruction. The course is eminently practical.
Classroom hours constitute the main part of learning activities. Weekly autonomous practice and personal study are required, along with one public presentation per semester of the work developed.

Assessment systems

Assessment is based on continuous evaluation and presentation of results. Continuous assessment represents 70% of the final grade, with constant attendance being essential due to the practical nature of the course. It includes records of preparation work carried out outside class hours. The remaining 30% corresponds to the results obtained in a scheduled exercise consisting of a public presentation.
