Josep Borràs

Professor of historic bassoon

Jose Borràs i Roca, born in Terrassa in 1958, obtained the Superior title in bassoon from the Conservatori Superior Municipal de Música de Barcelona,  the Musik Akademie
Basel (Switzerland) and a doctorate in Musicology from the University of Barcelona.
He is currently the director of the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC)
where he teaches bassoon and in the past was also head of the Department of Early Music. He is also professor at the Schola Cantorum in Basel.
He is a member of the groups Hesperion XXI and La Capella Reial (Dir. Jordi Savall) and
was bassoon soloist of the prestigious Chamber Orchestra of the Teatre Lliure in Barcelona.
Aside from his work as a performer, he is also very active as a researcher in the field of Hispanic music, and more specifically in the area of organology of wind instruments and
its relationship to vocal music.
He has participated in more than 150 recordings (several of those have obtained prestigious awards) and has delivered lectures and master classes in various international centers.
He is a member of the Catalan Society of Musicology
