The Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) is a relatively young institution of higher education which, since its foundation in 2001, has been characterized by the promotion of interdisciplinary education, academic dialogue between departments and innovation in teaching and extracurricular activities. Recently, a group of tutors linked to different research groups from other institutions, have shared concerns and projects within a working team. The "Music Research and Creation” group is now recognized as an emerging group by the AGAUR (Agency for Gestió d'Ajuts University and Research of the Generalitat de Catalunya).

The main objective of the group is to design the conceptual, artistic and technological mechanisms for musical creation, interpretation and research. It has taken an interdisciplinary approach that brings together anthropological, technological and artistic perspectives, in response to different sub-areas of knowledge within the academic departments of  ESMUC and the transdisciplinary  vocation of the institution. In this sense, the starting point is the work which has developed from official masters and funded research projects in recent years. Specifically, the group seeks to link theory and practice in research for music creation, in order to integrate specialists and different artistic, scientific and humanistic discourses, in line with on-going developments in other countries around the world.
