Cristoforo Pestalozzi


Born in Lugano (Switzerland), Cristoforo Pestalozzi studied with Mauro Poggio, Claude Starck (Konservatorium Zürich), Wolfgang Boettcher (Hochschule der Künste,Berlin), Janos Starker (Indiana University Bloomington,USA) and Götz Teutsch (Karajan Foundation,Berlin). 

His soloist activity includes concerts with thePhilharmonia Hungarica, theChicago NorthwestSymphony Orchestra, theOrchestra della Svizzera Italiana,theKammersolisten der Deutschen OperBerlinand theOrquestra Simfònica del Gran TeatredelLiceu. 

As refers his chamber music activity, Cristoforo Pestalozzi was a member and co founder of the Pan Artis String Trio and frequentlyperformed withthe Twelve Cellistsof the BerlinPhilharmonics. In several recitals with the pianist Martin Hughes Cristoforo Pestalozzi performed the integral for cello and piano by Beethoven at the Newbury Spring Festivaland the Féstival de l'Orangérie de Sceaux. At present he is a member of the Trio del Liceu. 

From 1991 to 2001 he was Principal Cellist at theDeutsche OperBerlin.Since 2001 he is Principal Cellist at theOrquestra Simfònica del Gran Teatre del LiceuinBarcelona. 

His intense pedagogical activity includes master classes at theFéstival d’Étéof Saint-Vaast La Hougue, theConservatoire de la Ville de Paris, the orchestra academies of theDeutsche Oper Berlinand theGran Teatre del Liceuand theInternational Music Festivals of Tarragona and Cervera. In 2004 he was appointed to a professorship at theEscola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) in Barcelona.
