Perfecto Herrera is member of the Music Technology Group in the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), where he has been responsible for projects related to automatic analysis and description of the sound and music, recommendation and personalization of music, and music perception and cognition. In these areas he counts with more than 100 published papers and articles of international scope. Between 2005 and 2011 he was director of the Department of Sonology of the ESMUC. He is also a professor in the Master in Sound and Music (UPF-ESMUC) and in the Master in Music as an Interdisciplinary Art (UB-Esmuc). Although his original academic background is psychology, in the 90s he studied Computer Music with Xavier Serra and Gabriel Brncic, and refocused his career to the field of technologies of sound and music, with intense working experiences in radio and recording studios. He is currently finishing his PhD in Information and Communication Technologies at UPF. Perfe collects synthesizers with "personality", sometimes you may find him listening to music that might give you a headache, and he has a special obsession with polar explorers and their territories.
