Jose Vicente Castello

He was born in 1978 in Alicante; Jose Vicente is one of the leading horn players of his generation.

He studied at the Musikhochschule "Reina Sofia" with the professor Radovan Vlatkovic, where he received from HM Queen Sofia an award on most outstanding student in 2002 and 2003.

There were also other great professors that influenced their formation as B. Tuckwell, M. Höltzel, K. Kulmala, R. Watkins, R. Epelde y V. Zarzo.

Alongside his musical studies, he studied Hispanic Philology at the University of Alicante.

He has been principal horn of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester from 2001 to 2006 made 11 tours of the major festivals and venues in Europe and Asia with directors C. Abbado, P. Boulez, M. Jansons, I. Fischer and F. Welser-Möst.

Since 2004 he is Principal Horn in the Symphonic Orchestra of Galicia and collaborates regularly as first horn in the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Muenchener Kammerorchester, Staatskapelle Berlin, Tonhalle Orchester Zurich and London's Philharmonia Orchestra, playing with directors like D. Barenboim, T. Sukiev, A. Schiff, ...

He has been invited on several occasions to the Lucerne Festival Orchestra (Switzerland).

He is also a founding member in 2004 of the "Mozart Orchestra" of Bologna conducted by Claudio Abbado and formed by prominent European musicians.

In the field of chamber music he has played with musicians as Mitsuko Uchida, Johnathan Biss, B. Canino, R. Vlatkovic, K. Tunemann, H. Schellemberger, Jacques Zoon, Jaime Martín, Paul Meyer, A. Carbonare, Kim Kashkasian, y miembros de los cuartetos de cuerda Guarnieri, Juilliard y Emerson.

Since 2008 he is professor of Horn at Liceu Conservatory and since 2010 in the "Escola Superior de Musica de Catalunya" (ESMUC) in Barcelona, where he teaches courses and Postgraduate Higher Grade.
